Unlocking Nature Educational Workshops

New workshops in partnership with the Conservation Foundation.

We are delighted to announce that we will be working more closely with The Conservation Foundation from now on, joining their Unlocking Nature Educational Workshops project.

The Conservation Foundation has been working to inspire positive environmental action since 1982. In his New Year message, their Co-Founder and Director, David Shreeve MBE, said, ‘Our overarching aims to Inspire, Encourage and Celebrate include programmes to support young people to develop and increase their first-hand knowledge of the wonders of nature.’ Bloom are honoured to be able to deliver our workshops to support these aims.

To enable us to do this The Conservation Foundation are planning to increase their funding of Bloom so that we can extend the reach of our workshops, both in our KS2 and KS3 three-session programmes and our one-day career-focused workshops for KS3.

The Unlocking Nature Educational Workshops will help to encourage children towards other Conservation Foundation projects including a Young Conservation Leaders Awards scheme and eventually research grants to help sustain positive conservation of our environment.

Studies indicate that regular exposure to nature during childhood can enhance environmental awareness and lead to eco-friendly actions in adulthood. According to Dr. Catherine Broom from the University of British Columbia: “Kids who love nature and play outdoors are more likely to protect the environment.”.

Yet the accessibility of nature experiences is not uniform across the country. Many communities, particularly those in cities, lack the opportunity to directly benefit from and establish vital connections with nature.

This initiative, Unlocking Nature Educational Workshops, seeks to address the imbalance by working with schools that lack good access and engagement with nature and the environment. The ultimate goal is to cultivate a lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship, ensuring a sustained effort to care for our planet.
